Bitlocker Software Raid Controller
Jan 16, 2018 There is about 20 users with low budget and cannot effort 'big server' with real RAID controller. BitLocker and RAID on HPE server - Windows Server - Spiceworks.
What type of disk configurations are supported by BitLocker? In Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7, any number of internal, fixed data drives can be protected with BitLocker. ATA and SATA-based, direct-attached storage devices are also supported. The following table details which disk configurations are supported and not supported by BitLocker.
So as you can see from the picture. It says That Hardware-based RAID systems are Supported However Software-based RAID systems are Not Supported.
One can also notice in the Microsoft KB Under system requirements for BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool it mentions. I know this is an old post but did you ever find an answer to the what happens if a drive fails? I'm currently in the middle of a raid encryption and never thought of that. I guess I just assumed it would encrypt both. But if one does die that does bring the question of replacing the dead. Would you have to decrypt the old? Or will the encryption copy itself to the new drive?
Also I know if you transfer a USB stick with Bitlocker installed you can access it on a different PC even if that PC doesn't have Bitlocker. I tested it on windows 7 anyway. Drivers asus x555lab bios. It is still encrypted but will ask you for the password just like it does on your own PC. But im not sure about internal drives. I have a 64-bit Windows 7 Professional O/S. I've used external HDDs for months now, but today when I plug any external/portable HDD/SDD in it prompts me 'Before you can save files on this drive, you need to encrypt it using BitLocker'.!!! I've tried accessing the drive from admin account and still nothing. When I open BitLocker management, it only lists. System Security I have Home Windows 7 premium which means I cannot Encrypt, create dynamic disks, or mirror (RAID 1) my hard drives, so if this is true and I want to use any of these I need to go back to my Vista Ultimate?
