How long will RMS be available for purchase? New and existing customers can purchase new Microsoft RMS licenses until July 10, 2016. Effective that day, new customers will no longer be able to purchase the product. Existing customers, those with active RMS licenses on their account prior to July 10, 2016, will be able to acquire additional licenses through July 31, 2020, as long as they remain current on their Enhancement Plan. Will RMS continue to be supported?

Existing customers will be able to take advantage of Extended Support for RMS until July 13, 2021. Microsoft will continue to release hotfix improvements for RMS through the end of mainstream support, but only updates required for identified security issues will be released. After mainstream support ends in 2016, Microsoft will no longer test RMS with new operating system releases but will remain officially supported in PCI terms as “acceptable only for pre-existing deployments” from the end of mainstream support to the end of extended support in 2021.
