I ask as I know a few professional video producers here (in Australia) that shoot PAL. Unfortunately I don't know why though! I kinda guessed it may be because they are mixing the footage with other PAL cameras mainly (and thus want the same fps (or whole-number mulitplier) throughout the workflow), or to avoid interlaced footage (I'm told interlaced footage is not ideal). I always shoot in PAL as a result, but yeah, have wondered if I should just switch all my different cameras to NTSC, but am reluctant to go against the pros!

Thanks for that link! But wow, after spending the last little while reading lots of sites I'm still more unsure than ever. The mechanics are clear, but as to what to actually shoot in there is so much information that is directly contradicting each other! Half people think it doesn't matter, half think NTSC is better becuase more fps, and half think PAL is best because better color and more lines and so on. It seems it's hard to know what is a TV-only issue and what is more than that. I see: While PAL may have fewer frames per second, it displays more lines than NTSC.
And The PAL system was created after the advent of color broadcasting, so color signals are much truer to the original image. I am still unsure!
