SD (Secure Digital) was widely adopted by media companies because it has some propitiatory technology to hide and lock content from the end user. This has yet to be cracked and probably wont be because it relies on some hardware-level markers. It's not just a flash memory card. It can distribute content that is locked, it can run integrated hardware (like the eyefi cards), it can hide storage space (as well as anything saved to it). All SD readers are subject to the gateway technology of the card that dictates how the card is interpreted when it is plugged in. No way around it as of yet.

If you worked for a memory company you might have tools to clone it, but nothing in the consumer world can. Actually, that's not even possible either. The way SD cards work is that the memory can be sectioned off completely, and given special attributes. What this means is that someone can set a certain amount of memory as a separate partition that can only be accessed by a specific hardware ID code, and it can *never* be seen except by that piece of hardware.
Not even memory tools would be able to read it. That's the entire reason this format was created. It was made so that media companies (music and movie) could protect their content from ever being read by anything but their own products. It's basically a way to not allow the content to ever be copied, and cracking it would be almost impossible. Copyright 2002-2015 FocusFanatics.com. Just bought a new to me smax, which although having only a fairly basic stereo was apparently Bluetooth enabled, so I assumed I could stream my music from my phone through the car in the same way as it can control my phone for voice calls. But it doesn’t, at least not found so far.
Doing some googling has only left me more confused, so to the hive mind. Anyone had and solved this one? Is plugging in an audio lead on the aux really the only option, or is there a ‘software’ upgrade available to fix it. What year is it? I’m assuming it’s a similar unit to the Mondeo; the earlier mkIV models didn’t have A2DP (bluetooth streaming), it was a feature quietly added in later models.

Possibly somehere around 09? They added USB at the same time, so I’d hazard that if you have a USB port you’ll have AD2P, if you’ve just got a 3.5mm audio jack then you won’t. The other thing is, the stock firmware is rubbish. I had all manner of ephemeral problems with mine until I got the latest firmware – I requested it during a service – and they all went away.
Weird things like you the display suddenly forgetting it had half of the features, or half the controls stopping working, or sometimes it just refused to pair for no good reason.
